TV: Did NBC just pull off the suckiest coverage of the Olympics ever or what?

You suck Peacock plus you railroaded Coco.
-
After screwing Conan O’Brien, the peacock network absolutely botches the Winter Olympic games coverage from start to finish…
-
Despite a dearth of talented broadcasters, the entire 2-week world wide event was a hack job of epic proportion…
-
If they didn’t have ‘The Office’, ’30 Rock’ and the NHL, I’d have no use for that network at all.

So I watched a little bit of the closing ceremonies yesterday evening and like the other 14-people watching was a bit dismayed and annoyed as per usual when it concerned NBC’s coverage of the games. It was an absolutely perfect ending to their coverage…full of glitches, poorly strung together and completely benign to what viewers wanted or could have expected from a large nationwide network. In a word: horrtastic. http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/NBC-awkwardly-and-abruptly-ends-Olympic-coverage?urn=oly,224859
NBC absolutely flubbed with the Olympics. Their run up to coverage was all about the Conan O’Brien controversey where they came out on the absolute wrong end of public perception. They barfed all over themselves for Jay Leno and crap programming instead of giving people what they want. And that carried over to the Olympic which they absolutely shit all over from start to finish.
This despite being in a wealth of great broadcasters from Bob Costas to Al Michaels and talent from one end of the other in all sports not named Mary Corrillo.
She’s absolutely horrible.
I’m actually surprised that they carried the USA/Canada game live, let alone live across the nation. Yes, they actually did tape-delay the USA/Finland game for the west coast as they did for all sorts of events for their ‘prime time” line-ups.
In this day and age of the intergooglewebnets and instant results, they needed to change the way that coverage happened, end of story. The simple fact was, I knew results before they happened and NBC refused to cover things live if it decided it was part of their over-all package of coverage in the prime time slots. That is no longer acceptable. It’s one thing if the Olympics are a world away and often a day away in say, Japan. It is completely another when the Eastern Time Zone is actually just 3-hours ahead of a Western Canadian location.
They acted like the events just didn’t happen, not allowing pictures, video or anything else to be released to outlets like ESPN or anyone else for that matter. Yet, the information got out. They could have and should have been able to offer a wealth of live events and then air the prime time schedule as a round up for the casual observer.
For their coverage of the next games in 4-years in Sochi, Russia which is 6-hours ahead of us time wise, I am quite certain they will have yet another abortion on their hands. After all it is NBC we’re talking about. While they have managed to turn out a pretty damn good product with the Sunday Night Football game, and their lack-luster, under-hyped NHL coverage which too, is very good, they pretty much suck at everything else.
If it were not for their NHL coverage and shows like ’30 Rock’ and ‘The Office’, I’d have absolutely no use for them at all until football season came back around. Even then, they managed to screw up ‘Football Night In America’ with a studio full of shitbags like Comrade Keith Olberman and 46-other analysts.
Fuck you NBC. Fuck you very much.
