• As Ole Miss tries to retire Colonel Reb, the student body is pushing to make Admiral Ackbar the new mascot!!!
• The school, not impressed with the silly response to a silly decision to get rid of the university’s supposed racist and skewed past isn’t having any of it though and the Rebel Alliance Admiral may not even be considered…
• It would give a whole new spin on the Rebel yell though if they did, instead of screaming like rednecks, they’d all go “It’s a trap!!!”

Yep, this is what passes for sports these days.  Yep, this is the type of story that has made the blogosphere important and relevant too.  Yep, I’m re-posting and re-pasting a story that has been around, but man, it’s funny and I have to weigh in too.

Admiral Ackbar needs to be the new mascot at Ole Miss.  He just has to.  After a campaign in which ideas were to be tossed around for mascots to replace the one the university it trying retire, the leading candidate is an inter-galactic freedom fighter and Admiral in the Rebel Alliance.  Yes, Admiral Ackbar, part aquatic species from another world, part skilled space craft military man is the leading candidate in a silly search to replace Colonel Reb. I see absolutely nothing wrong with bringing in an aquatic Star Wars charachter as your mascot as a replacement for a tied and true old one.  And, I absolutely see nothing wrong with the student body having a little fun at the PC Police’s expense.

Seriously, what are you going to replace Colonel Reb with?  A bird?  A dog?  Something PC like a rainbow or some shit?  Or like Centenary, are you going to replace one colonel with a comrade?  This is the dumbest shit ever.  Especially after the university has already removed him from logos and has also rid themselves of the confederate flag years ago.

It’s not like Colonel Reb is an Indian or something “offensive” in that sense.  He’s a dude in a bolo tie, big stetson hat and a walking cane.  Could his ancestors owned slaves and run a plantation?  Sure, but that’s in the past now isn’t it?  And isn’t this horse crap PC world of ours supposed to be a forgiving bunch for transgressions of the past?  I just look at Colonel Reb as a dude who is well dressed and would probably sound like Fog Horn Leg Horn.

Thusly, I think they should embrace Admiral Ackbar.  Why not?  Are you anti-rebel-alliance=aquatic beast?  That’s just galactic ally racist.
