Olympics-Shmolympics: Is this “provocative” or does the SI jinx extend to sports we don’t care about?

US Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, hot? provocative? Jinxed now?

Sports Illustrated taking some heat for their magazine cover of US downhill skier Lindsey Vonn, and I’m not sure why exactly…

Does the SI jinx take effect on sports we don’t care about???
by Mike Zimmer, Computer had VD yesterday
Is it just me or is everyone and their brother all overly sensitive these days? Personally, I blame Obama (sorry Mike!), but really, what the hell is up with people flipping out about the latest Sports Illustrated cover?
Sure, sure, it’s a woman in a pose…one applicable to her sport. Oh, wait, are we talking about the “Sports Illustrated Jinx” now too for all those that aren’t so worried about ‘the pose’?
While reading over at yahoo, America’s dumping ground of news for ninnies (but damned if they don’t have pretty much every angle covered, especially with sports)http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Let-the-Lindsey-hype-begin-Vonn-is-Sports-Illus?urn=oly,217525 the question was actually being bandied about on both ends of this debate. Really? That’s what you have time for America?
It would be one thing if this “athlete” went all Amanda Beard and showed some skin, sure, go ahead and allow all the ugly women out there to complain that she is being objectified and she’s taking advantage of her beauty not her skill blah, blah, blah. However, this chic isn’t doing that.
And then there’s all that curse business. Look, do I want my favorite team on SI before the big game? Well, no, just like I don’t want my #1 fantasy pick to be a guy on the Madden cover. But come on! Does this “jinx” truly extend to every possible thing you could put on a cover? More, on a sport we don’t really give a damn about?
Bah! Come on America! Come on Yahoo! Come on Obama (sorry Mike)! Just shut up already.
