Stop right there with your glue jokes or references to ‘Animal House’.   As I have bored you in the past, I am a big fan of the ponies and horse racing.   The Sport of Kings has fascinated me since I was a kid and as a gambling adult, I love it even more.   More than that, I am a tender hearted animal lover and non-hunter.   So, when  a majestic beast such as a race horse is felled by a freak and ugly looking injury, it greatly bothered me.   And,  now with the horse, Barbaro having been  destroyed after 8-harrowing months of optimistic recovery, I feel bad.

Barabaro more than likely should have never made it off the dirt of Pemlico’s race track outside of Baltimore, Maryland.   In times past, they would have put the animal down with a swift shot without hesitation even with or without the stands cleared (they did that in 1975!).   However, with millions of dollars at stake and with the well wishes of many who love the sport, every effort was made to save the colt from a death sentence.   The injury was so severe though that  complications were sure to be plenty and they finally caught up with the powerful horse causing a great deal of pain and  suffering.

These beasts are bred to run and run fast and are amazing physical specimins.   After growing up having my family own horses,  I have found  in general they are  amazing animals.   It is quite sad to see such an amazing animal that won  the most historic horse race of them all felled and eventually put down.   So  save your jokes, go over to  www.Deadspin.com or other places to  join in the fun.   I’m not crying in my  Diet Pepsi over  here, but I am saddened by today’s news.

In other  Sad news…

Barroid

Balco Barroid Bonds signed with the San Francisco Giants today after the team hemmed and hawed over the issue of retaining the bloaty headed Steroid King after he was proved to have tested positive for Greenies last season.   Amazingly, although only being caught high on Amphetimines and the juice, he’ll return to the MLB to reak havoc on the baseball record book.   With his signing and with a good season, Bonds will break* Hank Aaron’s Home Run Record (*-you know what this means by now don’t you?).

Too bad, Barry couldn’t have broken a leg and been euthanized instead.
