TV: Go Ahead and stick a fork in Studio 60

NBC bet big on this dud. No one is watching and after tonight, I no longer care about it either.
NBC should just go ahead and cancel what is a monumental failure of a network and writing staff to deliver what should have been a slam-dunk.

The show has 20-minutes left in it and I am preparing to abandon it for ‘Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations’ over on The Travel Channel. At this point, short of Amanda Peet screaming out “smack my ass” while naked and on all fours (and NOT pregnant like she now currently is) and being worked over pretty good by the girl that plays Harriet, I don’t think that there is anything that can keep my interest in Studio 60.
What should have been a slam-dunk good show has never materialized into a winner, and worse has been a gigantic debaucle. NBC said it would run the show until completion of it’s original 22-episode run that would finish at the end of the year, but they should just go ahead and put it out of it’s misery. They put poor old Barbaro down today for less. After missing most of last week’s second half of the season starting episode, I am watching in abject boredom and shaking my head at how bad this show is when it should have been a dominant player on network TV. Then again, perhaps it was doomed, as it is a parody of a parody show…only drama…kind of…with funny bits. Ugh, I can’t explain it either.
I did not watch The Left Wing…er…The West Wing which was also created and produced by that coke-head Aaron Sorkin. It is impossible by this abortion that is Studio 60 to imagine how The Left Wing was a hit series. The writing is awful, belittling what is an all-star cast. The actors due to the shoddy writing are hollow, wooden, cartoons instead of charactors that we should care about. The set up and direction of the storyline is a dizzying square dance of poorly concieved ideas in what should have been an easy premise. That was the worst sentence ever written and it’s better than what they have come up with recently on this clunker. Where that completely un-funny other show about SNL ‘30 Rock’ was somehow able to squeeze something compelling out of their show (namely a brilliant performance out of it’s star, Dick Head Alec Baldwin), Studio 60 hasn’t managed to breed amongst any of their 6 or 7 big names.
I wanted to like this show, I really did. I like Mathew Perry, I like Steven Webber and for some reason find both Amanda Peet and the chick that plays Harriet to be attractive, enjoyable and under-rated actors. However, after jamming as much political crap-o-la down my throat, trying to tease me with story lines that weren’t very interesting in the first place and not delivering what the show should have been about (namely a variety comedy show complete with skits!), I can take no more. Tonight’s episode was a complete waste of time trying to clear up or mess up some storylines and keep me watching…only, there isn’t anything to grab hold of. Namely the re-god-damned-diculous “will they or won’t they”, “budding” relationship between Bradley Whitford and Peet. Which was, the sillyest and most poorly concieved notion ever. And the Harriet/Matt thing…I thought they trampled on that thing a long time ago? For frak-sakes! Why and I even writing this? I’m gonna stop watching remember?
There is no wonder why this show is failing and now, I can no longer continue to give it any time or atteniton either.
