Terrance “Mount” Cody, a Defensive Tackle/Nose Guard from Alabama does his best Big Fat Andre HippopattaSmith impression. Mount Cody could go very high in the up coming NFL Draft.

Yeah, I know the paint isn’t dry on the Saints newly minted Super Bowl Champions T-shirts, but it’s time to talk draft!!!
- scRams finish awful (1-15) season will pick #1 over all as Detroit misses out on the honor by a pubic hair at (2-14) and a worse, loss to that same St. Louis…
- The Clowns finish their awful campaign with 4-straight wins, screwing up their draft position mightily…
- Bungles in deep doo-doo, saddled at #21 with teams in front of them and behind them that draft soooooo much better than they do.

With the Saints having their parade today and my hangover from the Super Bowl party I went to the other night still in my system, the weary cannot rest for long. It’s time for the NFL Draft speculation to start as the NFL season never sleeps. The Combine will be up-coming and then the long period of scouting, work-outs, interviews, players stocks going up and down like the Dow Jones and teams trying to decide who they’ll over-pay for in the NFL Draft.
While the event in my mind just won’t be the same with the first round staged on a Friday night, it doesn’t lessen my enthusiasm for the over all event that is the silly-season leading up to the NFL Draft and then the actual picking of the players.
It’s never a good time for Bungles fans, but in general, the draft is all sorts of fun and frivolity even without them screwing up pick after pick.
The Top Pick: St. Louis. With the shame of a (1-15) season, they get the honor of picking #1. However, this year with such a lack of “THE GUY”, it’s hard to say who they might zero in on. They’ve gone defense so often and they are so inept on offense that picking “A Man Named Suh” from Nebraska, might not be as simple a solution. The scRams need a QB with the oft-injured Marc Bulger, perhaps not even in a St. Louis uniform next year. Could Sam Bradford of Oklahoma or another QB be the guy?
Detroit for their futility picks #2. It would seem that the Lions may be set for a win-win at #2 this year. They will have the enviable task of perhaps picking between Suh and a bevy of other big defensive studs that are on the board and that is one place the team needs mighty improvement. The Lions finished (2-14) but lost to St. Louis this year…what an insult eh? They may have the last laugh though if Suh can fall to them.
Those pesky Cleveland Clowns, well, they went and pulled a Bungle and won their final 4-games of 2009. That was stupid considering they were well on their way to the #1 spot heading into December. While their fans will all insist “They’re back!!!”, I am afraid that that debacle of finishing strong late, will remove some big talent from the board. They pick #7 over all with Seattle, Kansas City, Washington and Tampa Bay between them and the top 2-spots.
The Clowns are typically a horrible team when it comes to the draft. One thing they should be happy about though is, Mike Holmgren is running the show now days andthat could turn around a little. Then again, Holmgren wasn’t known for being great on draft day but anything had to be better than the last few years right? They could also potentially dangle KR/WR Josh Cribbs out there for an extra pick, perhaps even a late #1 or early #2. Only time will tell if the Clowns really know what the hell they are doing.
One team that never seems to know what they are doing is the Cincinnati Bungles. Mikey Boy Brown and company will be drawing a name out of the hat down at the 21st pick. Which, is a spot that they will absolutely managed to screw up no matter what. There are too many good teams down in this neighborhood of the draft order that know what they are doing while the Bungles don’t.
For all of those of you that say, but wait, they got Rey Maualuga in the 2nd roundlast year…that’s right, as many as 29-teams passed on him TWICE because they knew he was a booze hound and no good in pass coverage. The Bungles ignored this fact.
No, the Bungles will be saddled between either the Houston Texans or the Atlanta Falcons at the #20 spot (that will be determined via a coin flip soon) andthe New England Patriots at the #22 spot. That’s right, Bill Bellichick picking right behind them and Thomas Dimitrioff of the Falcons (a former Bellichick andNew England guy) picking ahead of them. I can see the Bungles getting hosed on a possible trade or better yet, them just picking someone useless like Jerome Simpson’s brother.
Worse, in that neighborhood? The Pittsburgh Steelers (#18) who know a thing or two about building dynasties through the draft. The Dolphins, Giants and 49ers (who have 2-selection spots) also pick prior to the Bungles, all teams that do well in the draft. Yep, that (10-6) record and a trip to the play-offs was worth a lot wasn’t it Bungles? Mikey Boy Brown will gladly throw this pick away and you watch, whoever they pick will be a hold out because Brown and his family are a bunch of cheap skin flints.
The big picture over all is, we now shift our NFL items to mostly draft related stuff. If this bores you…well…tough.
