Minor League to the core

A group of friends and I had been talking about going to the Fort Myers Miracle (A high A ball affiliates of the Twinkies) game on this past Tuesday. Unfortunately, with the skies darkening that day and people bailing left and right, I made the executive decision to cancel the plans for that game. It was a good choice as the game was indeed scrubbed due to rain.

We immediately moved the game plans to Thursday to enjoy our usual Thirsty Thursday, which entails half price beer on all domestic drafts.

The snazzy new scoreboard

Apparently the Miracle got a new scoreboard

Things only got better as a friend of a friend, and an aquantance to me, whom I’ve hung out with a few times, reminded Pat that his company has 10 seats for every Thursday through Sunday game. Figuring that the seats were somewhere and lower level, and happy to save the $5 that the general admission tickets cost Mike V. and I arrived at the gate and met Pat who had the tickets.

Yeah, these were our seats

So as you can see, the seats were actually rows 1 and 2 behind home plate, w00t!! I was also very excited to arrive to find out that Yuengling had been added to the slate of beers that were 1/2 off. At $3 a piece for a 20 oz beer, “That’s a good deal, Wayne!”

The game was a pitcher’s dual into the ninth where the Jupiter Hammerheads (affiliated with the Florida Fishies) took the game from a 1-1 tie to take a 3-1 lead. The Miracle came up and got back to back singles, followed by a bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. The next batter was then “hit”, and I use that term very loosely, I think his jersey got hit, so the bases were juiced with 1 out. This was followed by a 3 run walk off double hit down the line. So the Miracle got the walk-off 3 rund double to win it 4-3!

The players mobbed the field

The full recap can be read here along with the video of the winning hit.
