Video Games: Madden ’11 tabs the incomprobable Gus Johnson to be new play-by-play voice for game

Excitable: Gus Johnson.

  • In one of the few tweaks that will come with the newest Madden Football game will be the addition of CBS’s Gus Johnson as the lead play-by-play voice…
  • Dear Christ, I hope that doesn’t mean Steve Tasker will be on color commentary…
  • Here’s to Gus and his excitable nature taking over gaming!!!

by Mike Zimmer, Has a PlayStation 2 and no job

According to several reports and outlets, CBS play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson will be the new voice for Madden ’11 (http://kotaku.com/5543678/madden-taps-gus-johnson-for-video-games-top-play+by+play-job).

The excitable Johnson has come a long way from the depths of covering CBS’s typical D+ games like say, The (1-9) Buffalo Bills hosting the (1-9) Cleveland Browns in a blizzard.  Yet, in a game like that, he’d surely find something to bark about and get extatic about when the Bills score the game winning safety.  Now, he’s in the big-time as the lead of the best selling video game on earth perhaps.

Of course, this begs the horrifying question of whether his former broadcasting parter and analyst Steve Tasker will be joining him in the Madden booth.  Dear Christ, I hope not.  Tasker is horrible for the most part and I hope to heck he’s not any where near a video game…ever.  Here’s to the Madden folks for realizing Gus has the potatoes to take this job and make the game perhaps that much more fun to play.  After all, who doesn’t want to hear Gus go ape shit about you trouncing your friend in Madden 66-9???

Vidjya Games: I have a feeling my collection of old games isn’t worth $4 nevermind $40,000

I only had Mario, baseball, Blades of Steel and Tecmo Bowl.

  • Extreme video game nerds have waaaaay too much time on their hands and disposable income…
  • Check your stash of old video games, there might be a nerd or comic book guy like creatin that will pay you boo-koo bucks for them…
  • I’m once again fascinated by our world being out of whack when it comes to some things like ‘Texting Championships’ and vidjya games being worth $40,000.

by Mike Zimmer, Likes killing people

This is the second article I’ve written about video games being worth extreme amounts of cash.  And, it annoys me that I have to do it.

Are you kidding me?  There are games out there that people will pay that much money for?  And, there are people out there that have nothing better to do than to decide a game that Nintendo put out is worth $40,000??? MLB: Video game offering $1-million if you can pitch perfect game

I even hate digital A-Rod.

  • One way to boost interest in a flagging franchise is to either bribe your audience or make a better product…
  • There’s really an official “scoreboard” for video games???
  • Yawn.

by Mike Zimmer, Final Day in UK

I don’t play many video games any more.  The last gaming system I bought was a PS2 and I really only played Madden, NCAA football, some Arena League Football, a little NECKCAR and NCAA basketball on it.  I’m not a shoot-em up gamer, I suck at those.  Hell, I suck at them all.  One in particular that I suck at was baseball.

No, not because I wasn’t very good at it, in fact, I found it either confounding simple or confounding hard, but it wasn’t…well…like a shoot-em-up where I would die every time.  No, it was more because, I sucked at keeping playing.  Baseball games in the video version are, unfortunately either arcade bubble gum or surprisingly boring snoozefests full of bugs. I Heart American: Video Game Injuries

Posted: February 7th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Not News, Video Games | No Comments »

Wiiiiiiiiiiii.

  • Seriously, as a nation I think we’re doomed, as a softer generation suffers from video game injuries…
  • Really?  The Wii fitness step pad is causing bodily harm???  It’s like 2-inches tall!!!
  • It’s official, I don’t think I want or need a Wiiiiiiiiiii.

by Mike Zimmer, Has a Playstation 2 that is not played very often.

My Sunday reading led me to this: (http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/wii-injuries-on-the-increase-says-medical-journal/1388232) an article about video game injuries being on the rise.  No, Really.

I sincerely think that as a society we are doomed and will not survive tougher times or the coming Zombie Apocalypse of 2012 when we cannot even survive or manage to not get hurt by…video games.  As a nation of fat, doughy, big brained people, we’re going to be easy pickins’ for those zombies.  Especially if we hurt ourselves falling 2-inches off the Wii fitness pad and breaking or spraining an ankle.  Or God forbid, we get a Nintendo-induced thumb blister from playing too long.
