BREAKING NEWS: Big Tweleven set to announce divisional line-ups tonight

Posted: September 1st, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcers, NCAAF, OSU Football, Top 25 | 1 Comment »

I don’t know why they don’t use my term…Tweleven.

  • Rumors about Big Ten alignment has reached fever pitch, and apparnetly they’re ready to announce who will be where…
  • My thought is that Penn State joins Ohio State in one division while Meatchicken is shipped to another…
  • Conference set to ruin perhaps the best rivalry in all of sports by moving the Buckeyes and Wolverweenies to seperate divisions, keeping them from playing at seasons end.

by Mike Zimmer, Buckeye

Rumors have been swirling, and apparently today the Big Ten will announce ther alignment of teams into divisions when Nebraska joins the conference next season (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-bigten-divisions).

The scuttlebutt has been all about the Ohio State-Meatchicken rivalry and how the league intends to deal with keeping the tradition of the two schools meeting alive.  As is, they’ve met in their final game every year since 1943 and it’s been a tradition that has come full circle into the greatest rivalry game in all of sports.  However, with the divisional alignments, more than likely separating the two teams, it wil then cause the league to move that game in an effort from ever having the two teams play two weeks in a row for the Big Ten crown.  Which, to me, sucks ass.

As it is, my thought is that Meatchicken will move to the “West” Divison with Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Northwestern.  Meanwhile, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana and Purdue would fill out the other “East” Division.  Which to me, makes no sense what-so-ever in a league that is tradition rich and could do sooooo much better. MLB: The Voice of God, Vin Scully will return to Dodgers broadcast booth in 2011 for 62nd season

Scully

  • In a year of exits and career finales, it’s refreshing to know that the voice of God will return to our ears again next year…
  • Scully will celebrate his 62nd-year as an announcer for the Dodgers and baseball next season, and once again sooth our souls for spring and summer…
  • Just another reason to make sure and re-up my MLB.TV order.

by Mike Zimmer, Braves fan

Great news today, Vin Scully still loves calling Dodger baseball and will return to keep on doing just that yet another year, next year.  Scully wanted to quietly announce today that he’ll be back for his 62nd year as the Dodgers play-by-play man, but instead a little bit sheepishly and humbly said he’ll be back for 2011 (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/vin-scully-dodgers-together-for-62nd-season).

In a year that will be bitter sweet for me with the retirement of Bobby Cox from the Atlanta Braves, and the sure departure of a few other players, managers and men who make the game of baseball great, it was refreshing news to hear Scully is staying put.  His soothing tones, the sound that I imagine how God sounds like will once again grace us with the song of spring and summer and speak of baseball.

Scully who still does the play-by-play alone on TV (simulcast on Radio for the first 3-innings) is still sharp as they come and absolutely a delight to listen to.  Hence, I must re-up my MLB.TV account for next season in an effort to keep hearing him call games, tell stories and celebrate baseball and life in general.  Keep it up Mr. Scully, you are a grand treasure for us all.

NFL: Woooo-Hoooo!!! Ring all the church bells in the country, the curse that is Keith the Commie is no more on Sunday Night Football!!!

Posted: August 6th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcement, Announcers, NFL, TV | No Comments »

America hating communist asshole, Keith Olbermann.

  • Liberal hack partisan ‘Commie Keith’ FINALLY removed from NBC Sunday Night Football broadcast and the awfulness that has become ‘Football Night in America’…
  • After a couple of years ruining a football highlight show that is not as good as it should be, the network finally pulls the plug on Olbermann and his tired, annoying and hackneyed shtick…
  • Let’s see, now if they could get rid of about 42-other athletes and actually show highlights, NBC’s lead-in to SNF might be watchable.

by Mike Zimmer, Gimme NFL Network any day

Thank Christ, Commie Keith is no longer going to ruin NBC’s Football Night in America.  The network has FINALLY removed the liberal douche bag political commentator from doing football highlights and embarrassing himself further with silly things like ”The Worst Person of the Week” bits.

NBC is shuffling their talent a bit in an effort to try and make their tepid lead in to SNF better and one good first move was to nix Commie Keith (http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/nbc-takes-olbermann-off-football-night-in-america-28791).  It’s a start considering that Olbermann is one of the leading commie liberals over at one of the poorly rated NBC news entities.  In a bout of double-standards for the liberal media and their own, they should never have had an inept political show commentator back into the realm of doing football highlights even if he’d once worked at ESPN and once upon a time been decent at his job doing that.  Rush Limbaugh didn’t belong anywhere near ESPN once upon a time and Commie Keith shouldn’t have been on FNIA.

NBC now needs to go about removing all the other dead weight from their broadcast which has become a self-parody of bad football programming with like 53-members of it’s broadcast including former players that couldn’t carry Bob Costas’s jock strap when it comes to the verbal conveyance of the game nor add anything worth while.  I say the next to whack is Jerome Bettis who as always is a poor man’s Emmit Smith.  Yep, I said it, Emmit at least was entertaining when he invented words and butchered the English language.  What has ‘The Bus’ done for that broadcast other than laugh and be annoying?

TV: Chris Berman, arrogant prick? Reviled?

Posted: July 20th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcers, Sports, TV | No Comments »

So nice, you should see it twice…in a week.

  • Chris Berman pretty much shows off the fact that he’s an arrogant prick on a grander scale via an interview with a media outlet that actually put some tough questions to him…
  • Sportsbybrooks.com then picked up on it and pretty much tore Berman apart in dissecting his interview…
  • It’s Official: Chris Berman is reviled.

by Mike Zimmer, Misses Tom Meese

Last week I ran the article about how ESPN’s Chris Berman is headed into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and how incomplete a body of work he seems to have to be enshrined in Canton (http://kegeratornation.com/?p=7555).  Well, apparently I’m not the only person who thinks that perhaps it’s a bit soon and/or outlandish to put Boomer Berman into the Hall.

Berman is apparently an arrogant douche off camera and isn’t exactly like his perceived persona of being “the fans” favorite or a nice guy at all.  And, in an interview with an television industry blog, it seems to come out even more that perhaps he’s a dick.  Sportsbybrooks.com picked up on this and further deconstructed Berman in his interview (http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/berman-critics-angry-dont-speak-for-people-28700).

It’s worth the read and may have sewn up something for this site.  Officially, Chris Berman is to be reviled.  After many years of appreciating if not always liking Berman, I’m pretty sure that now, everything he has something to do with is ruined.

NFL: Really? Chris “over-inflated ego and now annoying after first being entertaining ” Berman is going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

Posted: July 13th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcers, NFL | No Comments »

God!  Temper Tantrum much?

  • While his schtick was once new, unique and entertaining, Chris Berman is now an over-inflated parody of his former self now which makes it all that much harder to understand his being enshrined…
  • Whether it was his “deux, deux, deux’s” or maybe “You’re with me leather”, he just seems like a big pain in the ass to me…and isn’t all that entertaining any more…
  • All this and Ken Anderson, Ken Riley and Coy Bacon aren’t in the Hall of Fame???

by Mike Zimmer, We still miss you Tom Meese.

I don’t quite get it, Chris Berman is going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?  Come on, really?  It’s kind of too early in the man’s life and career for that isn’t it?  I mean, in 30-years we’re all going to be kind of chuckling that he’s there.  Then again, I suppose that if you waited any longer, he probably wouldn’t make any Hall of Fame because of that same problem.

Berman used to be great.  One of the most unique and noticeable new voices in the sport, especially when ESPN and the NFL started to come together and Berman delivered the highlights.  It was fun, it was entertaining for a while and then it started to fade from being that and became annoying and old.  Worse, the nice guy persona and the fakeness of Berman seemed to come out big time over the years.  The real guy was a pompous jack ass, a self-inflated ass hole who wasn’t at all what he seemed to be on camera, out from in front of it.  Notice the vidoe above, it’s not the only one like it.

If you ask me, this kind of sucks.  Sure, it’s apples to oranges, but how is Berman in and guys like Ken Anderson, Ken Riley and Coy Bacon, all former Bengals greats not in?  How did it take Dick Lebeau until this year to get in and Berman gets in now?  How about Don Coryell?  Silly.  All of it silly.  Boooooo Hall of Fame, booooo.

CFB: More EA is never a bad thing even if she wants us to think she’s some kind of serious journalist now

Posted: July 13th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcement, Announcers, NCAAF | No Comments »

EA, serious journalist.

  • Erin Andrews new contract with ESPN lands her a gig on ‘Good Morning America’ and adds her to the early part of ‘College Gameday’…
  • I’m all for more EA even if she wants to be “taken seriously”…EA, we take you seriously…you’re seriously hot…
  • We know there is NO risk of her being “over-exposed”.

by Mike Zimmer, Nice Calves

According to reports, Erin Andrews with her new deal at ESPN gets 2-added gigs to her normal “duties” at the World Wide Bore Leader and the family of the Mouse (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/-GameDay-tabs-Erin-Andrews-to-get-you-out-of-be;_ylt=Aoxmti.SeWiaFWqwkKqogY45nYcB?urn=ncaaf,255415).

On top of her normal duty as America’s Sideline Princess at College football and basketball venues and use on ESPN’s MLB and College World Series coverage, EA will be seen at ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ and as an early host to an added early hour of ‘College Game Day’ this fall.

Apparently she wants to be taken seriously and “get into hosting things”.  Fine.  Great.  Dandy.  EA, don’t push yourself too much in trying to be taken seriously.  Don’t wear “smart” clothes or anything with your new duty.  Be hot, be you and bring it and everyone will love you.  Host all you want.  Just don’t take the sexy away or think you’re suddenly Megyn Kelly or something.  That chick is hot because we know she is smart and just so happens to be hot.  OK?

RIP/MLB/NFL: The Voice of Yankee Stadium, one of the voices of God himself Bob Sheppard has died

Posted: July 12th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcers, MLB | No Comments »

The prestigious and God like voice of Yankee Stadium has been silenced.

  • Bob Sheppard, the almighty-like voice of Yankee and Giants Stadium has died at age 99…
  • With his deliberate and righteous voice echoing in the PA System, you once couldn’t consider yourself having made the big leagues until he said your name…
  • Good bye to yet another of the institutions of the game .

by Writa, Numba Sssev-en… Mike Zimmer… Numba Sssev-en, Zimmer.

Often immitated, never quite officially duplicated.  The regal voice of the distinguished and prestigious Bob Sheppard was the echoing god-like sound in the public address system at Yankee and Giant Stadium for years.  Since 1951, Bob Sheppard was the voice that set the table and set the in-stadium scene in New York.  First for the New York Giants football team and then for the Yankees who shared their home in the Bronx, Sheppard was “The Voice”. (http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/top-posts/bob-sheppard-the-voice-of-yankee-stadium-1910-2010.php)

Feeding back from the outfield back in again, Sheppard with his intricate pronunciations and punctuating certain sounds in a name, made them special and that much more meaningful.  As if the names of Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson and Derek Jeter (or as Mr. Sheppard pronounced it Der-ek…Gee-tuh) weren’t big enough, the sound of Bob Sheppard saying them gave them a stature far bigger.

As a special request, Derek Jeter has his voice recording announcing his name played at Yankee games during his at-bats.  And, as a special acknowledgement, Jeter asked and was granted the ability to have his name announced via recording by Bob Sheppard in Tuesday Night’s All-Star game, which to me, is awesome and a fitting tribute.

Rest In Peace Mr. Sheppard, you have been and will be missed.

OH NOS!!! Big Butter/Touchdown Jesus struck by lightning, burned down!!!

Posted: June 15th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcers | No Comments »

An Ohio landmark goes up in flames after a lightning strike.

  • If this was a sign, well, God is telling us to kiss our asses goodbye as Big Butter Jesus burns at the side of I-75 after being hit by lightning…
  • Can I be the first one to officially blame Obama???
  • Seriously, it burned down?  Say it ain’t so!!!
  • Allow Haywood Banks to sooth us in this hour of remembrance!!!

by Mike Zimmer, Loved the Big Butter Jesus

If legendary broadcaster Jim were still with us, he’d say it best:  “He’s all gone…he’s all gone.”  That’s right, Big Butter Jesus is no more (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lightning_strikes_jesus_statue).  Struck by lightning last night during the furocious storms that came through the Miami Valley here in Ohio last night, Big Butter Jesus burned down. TV: Local news fail #5,644. Inappropriate!!!

Posted: May 18th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcers, TV | No Comments »

Wow Bro-ham!  Seriously?  Did you really just say that?

  • You gotta love live local news broadcasts, despite their abject awfulness, they do bring us incredible instances of laughable awkward moments, including this guy…
  • I bet he also wonders if either of his co-workers also enjoy “penis”…
  • The counter continues: this is moment #5,644-of local news fail.

MLB: Forget about Keith Hernandez falling asleep, Ken Grumpy Jr. was found asleep in the club house DURING a game

Posted: May 11th, 2010 | Author: Zim | Filed under: Announcers, MLB | No Comments »

“Time for a nap, I’m old and I might hurt myself if I try at all.”

  • New York Mets announcer Keith Hernandez fells asleep during a boring Mets/Giants game…so what, big deal…Ken Grumpy Jr. fell asleep during a game he was actively apart of…
  • Time for Grump to hang em’ up and stop stealing pay-checks from the M’s who brought him back for a Swan Song in Seattle…
  • One more black mark against “The Kid’s” career and more proof, he’s not a good guy.

by Mike Zimmer, Not a Grumpy Fan

So what, the New York Mets announcer Keith Hernandez fell asleep during a game.  Big Whoop.  That’s what happens to a guy who is busy signing autographs for ‘Seinfeld’ fans all the time and busy out late nights on the town boozing it up with a certain former all-pro basketball player who he also sells men’s hair coloring with on TV commercials.

On the other hand, the bigger news is that Ken Grumpy Jr. was found asleep inside the Seattle Mariners club house DURING a game in which he was actively apart of and was being called upon to be a pinch hitter for (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Ken-Griffey-found-snoozing-during-Seattle-Mariners-game-051010?gt1=39002).

That’s right, Grump was sleeping in his club house recliner while the game he was apart of went on as he slumbered.  Grumpy, hitting an awful .204 with no homers, 5 RBI and 14K’s  and who hasn’t helped provide anything for a pretty tame M’s offense more or less just told his team what he thought of them when he did that too.  In my opinion, that’s would have been the last straw for me if I were in the Seattle front office.  It’s time for Grump to retire and leave the game.  No matter if he’s supposed to be an icon, he should be released outright.
