Sometimes you need to hear and read some good news from sports, and this one is pretty good and hopeful.

Norman Hand
-
Former stud “space eater” Norman Hand drops dead at his home in Louisiana at age 37…
-
Former Big Men on both the offensive and defensive lines are dying young, often obese and suffer heart conditions…go figure…
-
The ugly reality and downside to the playing pro-football often over-looked.
by Mike Zimmer, Falcons fan
Norman Hand played for a few teams in his days, I remember mostly when he played with Indianapolis on their front line. He was a big “space eater” if you will and one of the guys in the trenches of the NFL that don’t often get noticed unless they are massive amounts of human flesh that get results. Hand was good, not great, but had a lengthy career that was a success in my mind.
Hand died at 37 at his home in Louisiana. My bet is, he was still pretty big, probably had some health issues on top of the per usual crippling pain in his joints, bad knees and battered brain that was probably more akin to that of a 50-year olds than a 37-year olds. My guess? Well, he was probably still a huge human being. Probably over weight, probably with boarder-line diabetes and probably had issues with his heart on top of the things I listed above. It’s an ugly reality that our gladiators we love watching on Sundays are not well when they leave the game. Especially those that are the huge men up front who fight the trench battle of the wars on the field. Read the rest of this entry »

Golfer Ernie Els
-
A nice gesture from a pro-golfer to some wounded vets needs reported too…
-
Otherwise un-reported, a simple, nice gesture by Ernie Els makes you feel good, lets you know there are good eggs out there in the athletic world…
-
If you get the chance, thank a Vet. It should be a privilege to.
by Mike Zimmer, Els fan
I’m not much of a golf fan. Never have been. Love to play, hate to watch it. Yet, there are some good stories from golfers. In particular I used to love when Jim Rome had golfers and golf analysts on his radio show I used to be able to listen to everyday in my truck as I worked, becuase mostly they are great interviews and great story tellers. Some of them are ass holes (Phil Mickelson), some of them are arrogant ass holes and phonies (Phil Mickelson/Tiger Woods) and some of them are just plain awful (Phil Mickelson/Monty).
Some are good guys. Genuine Gentlemen of the game and OK guys. Today, well, I just became that much bigger a fan if you will of Ernie Els. In a simple gentleman-like gesture, he made a nice time for some wounded warriors, disabled vets of this great country of ours, that much better. While just sitting in a Jupiter, Florida bar, Els saw some vets on a docked fishing boat and wondered if he could talk to them. Unprompted, without cameras in tow, and no reporters in sight, it was a simple gesture to see if he could talk with and then share a few beers with a couple of war veterans who were on a vacation for wounded warriors. Lil’ Baby Jesus Tebow also cries.
-
Tebow gets an ear full from someone who didn’t want to hear his God-Squad-esque approach at the NFL Combine…
-
Someone told Tebow to “Shut the fuck up” after he requested that the room bow their heads for a prayer before his group was issued the Wonderlic test for intellegence…
-
Could this cause a problem with some teams drafting the horrible system QB with his beliefs affecting a locker room???
by Mike Zimmer, Down with the Jesus (but not all up in your face about it)
According to a report on Pro Football Talk, Tim Tebow had a bit of a poor reaction to his request that a group at the NFL Combine bow their heads in prayer before the Wonderlic test. (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/23/tebows-pre-wonderlic-prayer-request-falls-flat/)
Not only did it just get shot down, someone told the God Squad QB to “Shut the fuck up” and the room errupted in laughter. While this is a bit amusing, I’m sure Timmy Jesus didn’t like it and others will denounce it as the act of a Godless heathen and the devalued morals of football players everywhere other than in the bible belt, specifically not the University of Florida.
However, this has to be yet another red-flag raising item in some teams minds doesn’t it? Does Jesus Tebow’s God Squad message as a locker room leader potentially have serious detractions??? Personally, I’m not a big fan of those that jam the Jesus down my throat or to those that don’t want to hear it. I’m a believer too, a Christian in my own right, but I tend to not appreciate preaching. I’m not against those that feel obligated to their faith to live it, wear it and express it, just don’t make me endure it if I don’t want to. As a proudly Protestant man, I am free to express my faith the way I like. Read the rest of this entry »

Big B and my 3-team parlay is going up in flames and we’re not even able to watch it thanks to CBS…

Sienna was supposed to be a lock vs. a Robbie Hummel-less Purdon’t but they’re not pulling their weight on our bet…

Now, CBS has flipped games on us on all regional broadcasts and we can’t even see it go down in flames.
